After coming to the realization that I probably was not going to
find the intensity, drive, and "mental hardness" that I was wanting in
the Tervuren variety, I decide to look into working-line Malinois. I
was very impressed by the videos of Surge's parents, grandparents,
half-siblings, and other relatives - not to mention the fact that his
parents are OFA hips/elbows and CERF, which is very rare in
working-line Malinois breeding, as most working-line breeders only
check hips if they bother to do any checks at all - so inquired if any
males were
available from his litter. At the time all were spoken for, so I
expressed an interest in a puppy when the breeding would be repeated.
However fate intervened, a buyer backed out at the very last minute,
and so Surge became mine.
He is a very keen worker, working equally well for food or toys, or
just plain lots of petting and physical attention. Although his
competition days are far ahead of him, he's already amassed quite a fan
club among the agility folks in the Carolinas for his bold outgoing
temperament and engaging personality. We are having a wonderful time
together, and I'm looking forward to the years ahead we spend training
and trialling, in agility, obedience, and rally.
Normally I post photos of parents and littermates, but his breeder has
done an amazing job on her own pages so I see no need to "re-invent the
wheel", her pages have links to more photos and even videos. His father
is a former French subway police dog who has his FR2 and his first leg
on his FR3, his mother has her FR3 and her AHBA Herding
Capability Test, and his maternal
grandparents are titled in French ring, with his maternal grandsire
being a national FR3 champion.
