Private, 736 acres, 27-mile shoreline located in the Hickory Nut Gorge, by town of Lake Lure, approximately 1 1/2-hour drive. Highly restricted with expensive permit fees. NC fishing license required. Guide recommended (Dan Grapes, cell: 828 243 5481). Large and smallmouth bass.

Also known as Thorpe Lake, 1,470 acres, 26 miles of scenic shoreline with numerous waterfalls, located in Jackson County outside of Cashiers, approximately 1 1/4-hour drive. NC fishing license required. Large and smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, bream and lake trout.

A large, 7,565-acre, 75-mile shoreline lake, located in Oconee County, SC. Approximately 1-hour drive to launch at Devil's Fork State Park. Holds SC state records for smallmouth, spotted, and redeye bass, as well as brown and rainbow trout.
