CONNESTEE FALLS FISHING CLUB

Club Meeting Minutes

Connestee Falls Fishing Club

March 15, 2012

President Rick Hybil called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m. 25 people were in attendance, but none were new members or guests.
Bill Roehrich volunteered to bring coffee and other refreshments for the April meeting.
The minutes of the February meeting were approved as read.
Treasurer Larry Alsobrook reported a balance of $2,046.10, with recent expenditures for outreach tackle repair, printing and meeting refreshments.
Sunshine Chair Marian Wolf sent cards on the club's behalf to Ken Stark, Earl Jenkins and Bob Chord.
Fisheries Management Committee Member Bob Chord reported that the April stocking of trout in all lakes will include tagged fish.  He said the committee is also considering adding some forage fish.
Rick Hybil said the CFPOA Board has endorsed the club's recommendation that anglers in Lake Wanteska, designated as a bass-enhanced lake, release all unharmed bass over 12". Signage will be posted in that area as well.  Hybil encouraged anglers to keep all bass under 12" caught in Wanteska. The club is also considering pellet feeding and additional forage fish to increase bass size in that lake.
    Fishing reports:

    * Clyde Miller complimented the Fisherie Management Committee for "delicious, outstanding organic trout.
    * Pete Pepinsky lauded Eddie Edwards, 86, for forsaking golf and buying new trout waders and boots.
    * Bill Roehrich said fishing has been good on Lake Ticoa. He reminded members discarded plastic lures
and cigarette butts can harm fish.

Roehrich, co-chair of the Outreach Committee, reported that Jim Ungaro, Bob Hankins, Ray Tuers, Larry Alsobrook and Pete Pepinsky are repairing and relining equipment before the Boys and Girls Club and other groups visit soon.
Vice President Dave Collins said Cooperative Extension Agent Eric Caldwell will discuss the logjam in the French Broad River near the Transylvania County Airport. In May, Diamond Brand Outfitters in Fletcher will offer test rides in boats as we move back to Atagahi Park. That's also the annual hot dog lunch day.
Mike Milts asked if the club is still pursuing promised donations or discounts on fishing gear from Walmart.  Roehrich said yes. Hybil added that club members will be invited to make contributions to the outreach program as well as fish hides.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m. Members then stuffed envelopes with 2012 membership applications.
