About This Site

This web site has undergone numerous revisions, and grown considerably over the years. Most of the material here is professional information for my students and colleagues; sometimes you may wander into more personal material. As for the site's construction: obviously I'm an amateur web designer, both in graphics and design. But I am proud to say that nevertheless I've done it all myself, with a little help from my friends, as they say.

I originally used Netscape Composer to create pages, but have recently moved happily to Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. The text-based graphics like the background to the index page were created in Microsoft Word and then transferred as a screen shot into Abode Photoshop CS (an evil program). Obviously I love both words and fonts. The font for the navigation buttons in this site is JohnDoe, which I found at Old Typewriter Fonts. This external link will open in a new browser window.

Finally, more for myself than anything, I thought it might be fun to see the history of this site's appearance.

September 1998: a page from my Michigan State days
January 1999: a slightly snazzier version for USC Lancaster
November 2000: an early index page
November 2001: ENGL 101 growing, growing, grown
May 2003: complete graphic redesign
July 2005: recentering the universe
