Personal Biography

Lisa Hammond, aside from all the amazing things her professional biography notes, spends her spare time with her children, Laura (13) and William (5), the smartest and most beautiful kids in the southeast (at least).  And with Kitty, their very originally named once-stray cat.

Lisa at Landsford CanalLisa’s teaching occupies most of her work time—and lots of non-work time too—but if she’s ever actually alone for five minutes and not grading papers or doing laundry, she spends her free time reading, especially the fabulously wonderful Ursula K. Le Guin.  One of Lisa’s most treasured possessions is a letter Le Guin wrote her almost ten years ago.  She keeps it in her safe at home, visits it once or a year just to touch it again, and keeps a photocopy on her desk.

She enjoys keeping a journal, and often borrows from her surroundings for her poetry—rivers, rocks, sawgrass and local shrimp... Want to hear her read a poem? But this is starting to sound like work again...

She loves Star Trek:  TNG and Deep Space Nine. She loved Groovy Girls and Powerpuff Girls before they were cool—and still does, even though they’re uncool again.  She used to like cooking, and she still loves chocolate.  She takes long baths with her favorite books.  She thinks one of the best books of all time is Kevin Henkes’Julius Baby of the World.  Royalty only, please.
