Semester's Extra Curricular Activities

If you need extra credit this semester, you may choose to attend up to two of the following activities on the Columbia campus, then write a one-page summary and analysis of the events.  You must submit this paper to me by email no more than one week after the lecture.  I will replace one low response grade, or apply the additional credit to your participation grade, depending on what is most needed.  Choose from the following list:

Wednesday, 25 September
3:30 p.m.
151 Gambrell Hall
"Language History of African American English:  Nuances of Race, Class, and Gender"

Thursday, October 3
12:30 p.m.
Flinn Hall, Seminar Room 101
"Consequences of Class Among Women Experience Childhood Sexual Abuse"

Thursday, October 24
7:00 p.m.
Gambrell Hall Auditorium
"Celebrating the Empowerment of African American Women Through Athletics"

Tuesday, November 19
12:30 p.m.
Flinn Hall, Seminar Room 101
"Biological Basis of Gender Differences"

While these events are take place in Columbia, I nevertheless urge you to participate--I travel to them myself.  If it's something you're really interested in, it's usually more than worth it.  However, if you're not able to attend any of these, I will post some other extra participation activities later in the semester.  You may also propose an event in your region that addresses issues of gender (or race and class); if you see something happening in your area, email me with a detailed description of the event, and if you can convince me that it has any bearing on the subject matter of our course, you can attend that event instead (or in addition).
