Audience Assessment Exercise

Your second paper requires that you make a very careful study of the rhetorical situtation before you begin writing.  Remember the elements of the rhetorical triangle?

Audience: To whom is the argument addressed?  Who is being persuaded?

Author:  What's the author's persona?  How does the author wish to appear to readers?

Subject:  What details of the subject matter are included or excluded?

and Purpose, which drives the interaction of these three elements.

Click on the link to the Audience Assessment Exercise worksheet, and you'll be able to download a Microsoft Word document containing a series of questions about the audience you are studying.  Just type your responses to the questions directly into the document; save it to your disk for now, and be sure to turn this in with your second paper as well.  If you have any trouble downloading the worksheet, please let me know.
