Summer is over and a new year of Scouting is upon us. We have a very busy and exciting year planned and it starts with a bang at our first meeting on August 27. We will be having an ice cream social and getting everyone up to speed on the coming year and also handing out awards earned over the summer.
In September, we start with the annual School Night for Scouting during which we go to Mount Gallant Elementary and meet all the new Cubs and their parents for the upcoming year. The meeting on September 10 will be the first meeting with all the new scouts and we will have a parents meeting that night. The money for the USS Yorktown camping trip and also registration for Gold Rush is also at that meeting.
September 15 we will be having our Popcorn kickoff breakfast and then we will divide scouts and their parents around town to sell popcorn. The popcorn sale is our main fundraiser for the year and provides most of the money we need to operate the Pack. The sale will run from Sept. 15 thru Oct. 20 and we have set a goal for our Pack of $6,000 in sales this year. This goal is reachable but will take hard work from everyone. Also, every scout that sells popcorn will get one pie for every $100 sold (3 pie maximum) to throw in the face of the leader of their choice at the Christmas party.
October 19-21 is Gold Rush held at Chester State Park. We will camp at the park on Fri night and on Sat we will set up our game and the "Gold Rush" will begin. The scouts and their siblings will go "mine" for gold and take their gold to the games set up around the field and pay to play each game. The kids all have a great time at this event and I highly recommend every family to attend. The registration deadline for this is Sept. 10.
As you can all see we have an exciting first couple months of the year coming up. I thank you all for your continued support and assistance in making Pack 116 a great place to be a Scouter.
